FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITYJUNE 4 - JULY 28, 2006Research in Computational Mathematics Students will work individually or in pairs on research projects in the general area of computational mathematics. The projects will involve using mathematics to help understand a variety of applications; each project will involve some programming and conducting numerical experiments. Applicants should have completed a course in each of the following areas: multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods, and physics. The program will include workshops and short courses to bridge the gap between the students' backgrounds and the concepts necessary for the research. Seminars presented by FSU researchers will be included in order to broaden the experience of the participants. Each student who completes the program will receive a stipend of $3200, room and board at a private dormitory adjacent to the FSU campus, roundtrip travel to the REU site, and a travel allowance for a professional conference during the 2006-7 academic year to present the results of the research. Each participant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be scheduled to graduate with a baccalaureate degree after September 2006. ON FEB.15 NSF NOTIFIED US THAT THEY WERE NOT SUPPORTING THE FSU REU PROGRAM FOR SUMMER 2006. AS A RESULT WE HAVE CANCELED THE SUMMER 2006 PROGRAMSummer 2005 ExperienceSummer 2004 Experience
